About Us
Nestled on the northeast corner of a small town is a one-of-a-kind special place -- Compassionate Veterinary Care of Hersher.
When you walk through the door, you and your furry family members feel at home. That's because it once was a home to the Dickman family and built with careful planning, love and craftsmanship in the early 1970s, from the woodwork to the slate tiles. Much of the original layout is the same as it was prior to Dr. Beth Van Voorst gently forming it into a place to care for animals.
After earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and BS in Animal Science from University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, Van Voorst began her career at Peotone Animal Hospital, a great clinic in a small town.
Once she had 13 years working as a veterinarian under her belt, Van Voorst decided it was time to create a place of her own. Having grown up in Union Hill and surrounding areas, she thought Herscher would be an ideal place to open her location.
Immediately after she walked in the door of the Dickman house, she knew it was the right place for the practice. It's in this location that she and her experienced staff lovingly care for animals. They are good at what they do.

"Opening this home away from home has allowed me to spend more time with my parents, family and daughter," she said.
Starting with no existing clients in August 2015, to having to stop accepting new clients in 2019, the community has embraced the business as Dr. Beth and her staff continue to enjoy seeing and caring for furry family members or friends new and old.
"It is a fulfilling feeling to know your clients and patients by name and are able to provide the best care possible with a compassionate and capable team," she said. "We are very focused on quality of life from a few weeks old through the senior years."
With their focus on regenerative medicine, the clinic is able to provide laser therapy for painful joints, muscles, and injuries, speeding healing. After special training and purchase of special equipment, they are performing the intraarticular Platelet Rich Plasma injections.
"Every day is dynamic, with new challenges and experiences, and that is what keeps the progession interesting," she said. "We see a very diverse range of issues that one would never expect in a clinic this small and a town this size."
